Dr. Amberger-Murphy carried out her PhD training at the Brain Research Institute, University of Zurich, Switzerland, followed by postdoctoral training in Zurich and Canada. She took up a position as Research Officer at the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology in 2002, where she worked on multidrug resistance in tumours of various origins, developed drug resistant cell lines, and carried out invasion studies on primary brain tumours.

In 2009, she became Translational Research Co-ordinator at ICORG, working closely with MTCI. Since joining ICORG, she has developed the translational study portfolio from 5 studies to over 25 studies between 2010 and 2013, developed standard operating procedures for sample processing and introduced case report forms for translational studies. She has also developed the infrastructure and set procedures in place for a National Breast Cancer Biobank.
